Skilled Nursing Unit and Long Term Care
Set in the Muncy community, the Skilled Nursing Unit offers Christian based holistic care, security, comfort and a wide range of services to individuals needing specialized long term care and rehabilitation during short term stays. Private rooms, sunny family alcoves, a full-service rehabilitation area designed for occupational, physical, speech, recreational and restorative therapies and large dining/recreation areas are features of this newly constructed facility. A staff of nurses, social workers and activities therapists provide services dedicated to the long term care resident.
Beyond the compassionate care associated with our Skilled Nursing Unit, our residents enjoy comfort and privacy in a home-like atmosphere. All of our semi-private and private rooms are beautifully furnished, but residents are welcome to bring their own decorations to add a personal touch. Staff and facility layout pays special attention to residents' safety. Each room has fire sprinklers, safety-equipped bathrooms and a nurse-call system for assistance 24 hours a day.
An attractive sun room and open dining area framed by large picture windows lend scenic views of the surrounding countryside. We offer a variety of nutritional foods and are happy to satisfy a resident's particular needs. Private dining rooms are available for special dining or occasions such as birthdays and holidays to celebrate with friends and family. And because fresh air is important, there is a park on the grounds with paved pathways.
Every resident and a designated loved one receives a copy of the monthly resident newsletter Resident News. It is distributed at the beginning of every month and contains important information about the Skilled Nursing Unit including, activities for the month, facility notices, a section on resident rights and responsibilities, updates from staff as well as birthdays and personal profiles of every new resident.
Our Activities department is unique because it is managed by a certified therapeutic recreational specialist. At least three hours of activities are organized every day for residents. Staff tailor activities for residents based on each individual resident's abilities. There is an emphasis on integrating culture, music and exercise into all activities and staff strive to achieve a 30 percent active participation rate from residents in each activity. Examples of activities include cooking groups, arts and crafts, picnics, worship services and group exercises. One-to-one activities are developed for residents who are unable to participate in group activities.
Because we want our residents to feel like a part of the community, residents travel off campus for special group outings such as shopping or luncheons at least once a month. Loved ones are welcome to participate in any of the activities.
Resident Council meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 2 P.M. in the first floor Activity room in the Skilled Nursing Unit. All residents are welcome to attend and encouraged to give staff feedback about any issues relating to their care. Each meeting is run by the officers who are all residents. The activities department staff invites guest speakers to attend and discuss topics suggested by residents during a Resident Council meeting.
Our facility provides adaptive equipment (e.g. blackboard, hearing devices) for those residents who need assistance communicating during a meeting.
