The Washington County Health Center is a licensed nursing facility serving the Washington and surrounding communities for over 30 years. Our 288 bed facility is located on scenic and spacious grounds in the rolling hills of Chartiers Township. The Health Center provides skilled nursing care, short term rehabilitation services, residential nursing home care, and speciality care for individuals with special needs, such as Alzheimer's disease. In addition to traditional long term, residential nursing home services, the Washington County Health Center also offers such services as Adult Day Care, and training and support for care-givers and families. In all that we do, we are guided by our commitment to provide each resident, client, or consumer with services of the highest possible quality, to acknowledge and protect each individual's right to be treated with dignity, respect, and courtesy, to respect each individual's right to privacy, to help each individual to achieve their highest possible level of independence and quality of life, and to recognize the value and contribution of each staff member as we work together for the betterment of the residents we serve.


HEALTH CENTER ADMISSIONS

The Washington County Health Center (WCHC) provides residents of Washington County and surrounding areas, with quality skilled nursing care, rehabilitation services – physical, occupational, and speech therapy, IV therapy, wound care, tube feeding, tracheotomy care, pain management, terminal care, long term nursing home care, respite care, therapeutic/recreational activities and discharge planning. In addition to all of these services, WCHC has a specialty care unit designed for those nursing home residents who have Alzheimers type dementia and are in need of a safe, secure nurturing environment. In-house services include podiatry, psychiatry, optometry, psychological, hospice care, and a community based Adult Day Care Program.

WCHC is an approved provider in a variety of insurance programs, including but not limited to the following: Medicare, Security Blue, Select Blue, Health Assurance, Advantra, Freedom Blue, Blue Cross of WPA, Direct Blue, Preferred Blue, Keystone, Medicaid, Gateway, Med Plus, UPMC for You, UPMC for Life, AARP, UMWA, Aetna U.S. Health Care, United Health Care, and Private funds.

HEALTH CENTER ACTIVITIES

The Activities Department staff plans and coordinates programs of interest to meet Residents' physical, emotional and social needs. Each Resident is given the opportunity and encouragement to participate in programs of their choice to enhance the individual's quality of life. Some of the activities offered include: exercise programs, bingo, board and trivia games, arts and crafts, religious services and Bible study, social event and news and discussion groups. Active games such as kickball, volleyball and basketball, ring toss, horseshoes, shuffleboard, golf and bowling are also provided.

Outings, using the facility bus, are planned each month (per nursing unit); special outings are arranged when possible for attendance at community and cultural events. Music opportunities include sing-a-longs, rhythm band, hymn sings and the enjoyment of "listening". Video movies are provided, and there is participation in the yearly regional Spelling Bee. Seasonal and special events, parties and picnics are also scheduled throughout the year. Individual activities are planned for those Residents who are unable or prefer not to attend group programs. Resident pets are regular visitors in the Center, providing a consistent, vibrant and homey atmosphere. We now have a facility dog named "Buster" who visits with the residents 5 days a week.


HEALTH CENTER DIETARY

Our Clinical Dietician and Director of Dietary Services have created a variety of appetizing menus, and will provide meals within the therapeutic diets prescribed by the attending physician.

At the Washington County Health Center, we recognize that food is a very important part of our resident's day. We take much pride in the food that is offered at our facility. We offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening snacks each day. A dietary staff person will visit all individuals to accommodate food preferences.

Each meal is prepared on-site to meet the specific dietary needs of each of our residents.

- Chaplain Services
The Washington County Health Center Chaplain is available for a complete range of pastoral care, which consist of worship services, Bible study, devotionals. Catholic Mass, Eucharistic ministries, communion and Rosary services.

- In House Nursing Services
We provide 24 hour nursing care. Services include but are not limited to; I.V. Therapy, Oxygen Therapy, Tracheotomy Care, and Wound Care. A physician is available for consult, as needed on a 24/hr daily basis.

- Insurance Information
WCHC is an approved provider in a variety of insurance programs, including but not limited to the following: Medicare, Security Blue, Select Blue, Blue Cross of WPA, Direct Blue, Preferred Blue, Keystone, Medicaid, Gateway, Med Plus, UPMC for You, UPMC for Life, AARP, UMWA, Aetna U.S. Health Care, United Health Care, and Private funds.

- Laundry
Laundry services are provided free of charge to all residents or families may elect to launder personal clothing themselves. All personal clothing will be marked by the facility.

- Other In-House Services
A podiatrist, optometrist, and dentist all visit the facility and provide their expertise and services. Hospice services are also available through various agencies. We also provided Respite Care.

- Resident and Family Councils
All residents and family members are encouraged to participate in an active family and resident council.

- Restorative Nursing
The Restorative Nursing Program at WCHC is directed toward the promotion of assistive nursing intervention to achieve a resident's maximum potential in independent self care and mobility. Some of the programs available under Restorative Nursing include: Activities for Daily Living Ambulation and Transfer Wheelchair and/or Bed Mobility Splint and Brace Assistance Range of Motion Feeding and Restorative Dining Practicing of Balance Skills

- Therapy Services
Physical Therapy: Our program goal is to restore the resident to his/her highest level of function. Treatment plans are customized specifically to meet the needs of the resident and are designed to support, encourage and give confidence to the resident as we work towards discharge. Physical Therapy works on body mechanics such as, balance training, gait training, muscle re-education, strength and endurance training. Occupational Therapy: Our occupational therapy program enables residents with limitations to participate in everyday life. The therapist work to ensure that residents regain or maximize their daily living skills such as; home-management, cooking/cleaning, and self care. Speech/Language: This programs specializes in the the recovery of speech, language and swallowing functions. The therapist works to improve communication skills and cognitive abilities. Speech therapy has multiple programs such as; augmentative and alternative communication, cognition/memory therapy and vital stimulation.

- Transportation
Transportation is provided to outside appointments with specialists and to facility activities scheduled outside of the facility. All residents going to medical appointments out of the facility will have a staff escort with them at all times.
