In April of 2002, we embarked on a journey that would change life in our home forever. We began by looking at the way we ran our traditional medical model nursing home. A complete culture change began within our home. Our management team transformed into a leadership team becoming "grandparents" to our Eden families. Much of our time is now spent educating and empowering our front line care givers and Elders to make decisions regarding Elder care, the result is Elder-centered care. The most recent accomplishment offers our Elders choices where they once had few. We have spent the last two years transforming our culinary service into a 24-hour made-to-order dining program. Read more about this wonderful endeavor on our Life In Our Home pages.

Elder Centered Care is the basis of the Eden Alternative philosophy. We create an Elder-centered community by eliminating the hierarchy in our home. We reconstruct the way we live and work putting our Elders at the center of all our decisions. When we make this change, we "deinstitutionalize" our home and build a vibrant human habitat. We give our Elders opportunities to make choices in their daily routines. By introducing pets, children, plants and gardens into daily life, we give opportunities for Elders to give care. We also encourage staff and Elders to care for each other nurturing personal and intimate relationships.
We offer all the traditional nursing home services coupled with the Eden Alternative philosophy.

Extended Care in our home is offered for Elders that choose to make our home their home permanently or for extended periods of time. Our staff are dedicated to creating the right home environment for each Elder. Care plans and daily routines are customized with each Elder's preferences in mind, giving our Elders the freedom of choice.

Respite Stays are available for Elders that have personal caregivers at home. Short stay arrangements can be beneficial to Elder and caregiver, giving each a restful break from everyday responsibilities. A respite stay is perfect if you are caring for a loved one and are planning a vacation, need a break from the day to day responsibilities for your well-being, or need the opportunity to introduce your loved one to a community living setting. Arrangements can easily be made by contacting our social services office.

Our Alzheimer's Care Unit specializes in providing for the needs of Elders with cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer's disease and dementia. This secure living area, located on Elm Street, has an interior walking track, a courtyard with a gazebo, gardens and children's play area. Elders on Elm Street enjoy the company of our resident bunny, "Trixie" and her two companion cats, "Ralph" & "Angel." The families of Elm Street build relationships that engage Elders each day in life-enriching activity.

Rapid Recovery/Rehabilitation Therapy is available to Elders that stay with us short or long term. We have a professionally trained staff of Physical, Speech, and Occupational therapists. Each Elder's therapy is personalized according to their needs and abilities. Our therapists show their diversity and creativity with programs such as a weekly cooking club, laundry folding, creative movement, and garden walks. We find it very important to incorporate therapy programs with opportunities for our Elders to make choices and give care. Restorative therapy and assistance with daily living are also a part of our therapy services. We believe it is important for Elders to be as active as possible for as long as possible.

Our newest addition to our therapy program was purchased for our home by our staff, in honor of our owners. In December, a Wii system added some new therapy options. Our Elders are enjoying a little space age therapy as they bowl for strikes, hit home runs, drive it home in a round of golf, and they can do this all with the technology of a video game.
